The wait is almost over! After its official announcement in February 2024, The Pokémon Company announced the release date for its upcoming game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A. This will be the second instalment of the Pokémon Legends series, following Pokémon Legends: Arceus in 2022, where trainers will return to the Kalos region.
According to the game’s official website, Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be released on October 16, 2025, and will be available on both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, it also revealed the official box art for the game, featuring the two main characters in Lumiose City battling a Mega Lucario and Pikachu in the middle of the night.
Alongside the latest news, Pokémon has announced on Twitter/X that it will be hosting its next Pokémon Presents live stream on July 22, 2025, at 6 a.m. PST (11 p.m. AEST) and releasing new plushies based on the Mega Evolutions. While the official Australian price for the game has yet to be revealed, the official Japanese website has listed the regular Switch version at ¥7,128 ($76.58 AUD). Meanwhile, the Switch 2 version costs ¥8128 ($87.32 AUD). Additionally, Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s Switch 2 Upgrade Pass is currently listed at ¥1,000 (~$10 AUD), and pre-orders will begin on June 5, 2025.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is an upcoming Pokémon set in the Kalos Region, taking place years after the events of Pokémon X & Y. The starter Pokémon for this title are Chikorita, Totodile, and Tepig, and they will feature a real-time combat system rather than the traditional turn-based system. Also, Mega Evolutions will return, which is a fan-favourite gameplay mechanic.
While the game’s full plot has yet to be revealed, Z-A will only take place in Lumiose City. The city is currently undergoing an urban redevelopment project, with plans to have wild Pokémon coexist with humans. At night, trainers are invited to participate in the Z-A Royale. This event involves trainers meeting in battle zones as they attempt to raise their rank. Those who make it to Rank A are said to have their wish granted.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be available for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on October 16, 2025 and is currently available to preorder.
