Persona 5: The Phantom X is a Persona gacha coming soon

Posted on May 16, 2025

After a long beta test restricted to Asia, ATLUS has revealed the global release date of Persona 5: The Phantom X. The next spinoff of Persona 5 will be released on PC & Mobile devices June 26th 2025.

The date was featured in an extended presentation from ATLUS, alongside basic story and gameplay trailers for the upcoming game.

Persona 5: The Phantom X is yet another spinoff of the incredibly popular Persona 5. Whereas prior entries explored the further adventures of the same main cast, Phantom X focuses on an entirely new group of Phantom Thieves.

These new Phantom Thieves seem to heavily parallel the previous crew. Players will step into the shoes of a new protagonist, “Wonder,” accompanied by an owl named “Lufel.” With Joker making an appearance in the story trailer, the original cast will seem to return in some capacity. The game’s website provides more information on the next generation of thieves.

However, the elephant in the room is that this Persona is a gacha game. The stream details a unique “Phantom Idol” system, where the player can summon manifestations of new allies into their team. We won’t have a clear idea of how much the player can enjoy Phantom X before being bottlenecked into spending money until the game releases.

It’s exciting to see more of Persona and its eccentric flair, but the era of Persona 5 is becoming stagnant. This is the fifth spinoff from Persona 5 following Dancing in Starlight, Q2, Strikers & Tactica. While each entry has tackled different gaming genres, the main game is nearly nine years old at this point.

Hopefully, the band of fresh faces in Phantom X will add some variety to the narrative. But how much longer can ATLUS rely on the reputation of a single game?
