Game Freak (that’s right, the developer behind the Pokémon games) has revealed its upcoming action game, Beast of Reincarnation, during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025. Set in a post-apocalyptic Japan, it sees its protagonist Emma, a sword-wielding outcast, venturing into the unknown to combat corrupted beasts.
According to the reveal trailer, the setting of Beast of Reincarnation features a great beast appearing long ago and spreading blight across the land. With humanity now apparently facing extinction, Emma, an outcast known as a Blighted One, must fight for survival alongside her canine companion, Koo. Emma must slash her way through blighted wildlife as well as corrupted robots. The game’s art direction looks particularly stunning, with Game Freak’s experience at creature design being put to good use. The game’s Steam Store page description promises “demanding, technical combat“, with an apparent focus on parrying and evasion.
Beast of Reincarnation is currently set to release sometime in 2026. As such, we are likely to learn more regarding details of the gameplay, as well as a more narrow release window, as development progresses. The game will be releasing on Xbox Series X/S, PC and PS5. It is also set to be a day one Game Pass release when it eventually comes out.
