Over the last few years, we’ve seen a lot of strange horror games come out. Think The Mortuary Assistant, which sees you embalming and preparing dead bodies for burial. Makes sense for something scary, right? But you know what’s even scarier than dead bodies? THE DENTIST! Even scarier? In the new upcoming title from Alice Games, Shark Dentist, you’re put in the front seat as a dentist for not just anyone. Oh no, as the title might suggest, you’re a shark dentist.
Shark Dentist will have players performing dentistry on massive sharks precariously chained to the ceiling. Despite the sharks being under anaesthesia, they’re never fully asleep, and any mistakes while operating will cause the shark to lash out, ending the run in one clean bite. Gameplay is said to be a mix of resource management, multitasking and high-wire precision as players monitor pain levels, administer drugs and choose the right tools for the job. All this while managing a rising level of stress within the monstrous patient, for even more added tension.
As well as this, there will be roguelike variety in the way of randomised tooth problems, debuffs, tool malfunctions and sudden pain spikes, all in the name of keeping players on their toes. As if having your head inside the mouth of a shark wasn’t stressful enough.
This definitely looks like it’ll be an interesting title, and one to keep an eye on as more information comes out about the game’s development. This looks to be the first dive into this sort of game for Alice Games, and it’ll be exciting to see if they can truly create the tense atmosphere a game like Shark Dentist demands.
Shark Dentist currently has no release date, but is available to wishlist on Steam.
