Remedy Entertainment is reportedly “unsatisfied” with the sales of its flagging co-op shooter, FBC: Firebreak. According to an investor report, the game is not meeting sales targets, with the majority of players identified as those accessing the game on console subscription services. Despite this, the developer is continuing to commit to the game’s future.
As per Remedy Entertainment’s recent investor report, FBC: Firebreak “underperformed” on Steam. The report states that “the game’s initial onboarding experience and mission structure resulted in high early player drop-offs and an influx of negative reviews“. Consequently, the developer has been “unsatisfied” with the launch-period sales of FBC: Firebreak, in particular identifying that “commercial performance has largely been driven by the Xbox and PlayStation subscription service agreements” rather than players purchasing the game for themselves.
Despite these early disappointments, Remedy Entertainment is committing to seeing FBC: Firebreak fulfil its potential. “Despite the rocky launch, we believe we have a solid game to build on,” the company maintains in the report. “Players who spent over an hour with the game reviewed the game mostly positive – showing us that the core experience of the game is entertaining.” The next key step in FBC: Firebreak’s future is a major update, set to release late September 2025. According to an announcement on Steam, this update will focus on improving the onboarding experience for new players and changes to the weapon upgrade and Job systems.
Will this change be enough to deliver FBC: Firebreak the break it needs? While releasing on Game Pass and PlayStation+ was a canny move which has at least delivered the game a decent launch audience, the mixed early reviews and low actual sales show it is yet to convert a large amount of that audience to loyal players. Regardless of whether this planned major update improves the fortunes of FBC: Firebreak, Remedy Entertainment has also confirmed that it is still working on Control 2 and the remakes of the first two Max Payne games.
