Iron Lung creator David Szymanski teased what’s to come for the upcoming film adaptation of the indie horror game. The film will be the directorial debut of Mark Fischbach, also known as Markiplier, and according to the game’s creator, he’s impressed with what has been produced so far.
During an interview on the Quad Damage Podcast, Szymanski commented on the film adaptation. He teased that the Iron Lung movie is a “serious, proper horror film,” not just a cash grab. He also added that there are plans to have this film released in theatres.
“The movie is very good. I don’t think people are ready for it,” says Syzmanski. “It’s a “proper movie” movie, you know what I mean. It’s not just, ‘Here, let’s make a fun little movie from the game’ This is a serious, proper horror film.”
Iron Lung is an upcoming sci-fi horror film based on the 2022 submarine simulation indie game of the same name. Starring in this feature are Fischbach, Szymanski, Caroline Rose Kaplan, and Seán McLoughlin (aka Jacksepticeye). Music composer Andrew Hulshult, known for his work on Dusk and DOOM Eternal’s The Ancient Gods campaign expansion, also contributes to the project.
The project was first announced in 2023, when Szymanski revealed on Twitter/X that it had been greenlit. Since then, the YouTuber has released two trailers for the upcoming feature, but they have not yet revealed a release date.
The Iron Lung video game features a solo protagonist who pilots a submarine called “Iron Lung.” It takes place when the universe has succumbed to “The Quiet Rapture,” where habitable planets and stars have suddenly disappeared, and the survivors are those living in space stations. The submarine pilot visits a desolate moon that features an ocean of human blood as they search for potential resources.
Iron Lung is available on PC and the Nintendo Switch.
