Breath of the Wild wins Game of the Year at Game Developers Choice Awards

Posted on March 23, 2018

To the surprise of absolutely no one who’s been paying attention to the gaming scene in the last year, Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild took home another Game of the Year Award, this time at the  18th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The award ceremony took place on Wednesday 21 March at the San Francisco Game Developer Conference, with the votes cast by game developers themselves. The win adds to the ever growing list of  Game of the Year  awards that Nintendo’s revolutionary open world adventure game has received – it has previously won the coveted title at The Golden Joystick Awards, The Game Awards,  and the D.I.C.E. Awards, to name a few. It also snagged the award  for Best Audio and Best Design.

Cuphead

Other notable winners include game studio StudioMDHR for their charming and notoriously difficult retro shooter Cuphead (Best Debut and Best Visual Art); What Remains of Edith Finch (Best Narrative); Horizon Zero Dawn (Best Technology); and puzzle game Gorogoa (Best Mobile Game and Innovation).  The slightly insane Nier: Automata took home the audience award, which was open to an online public vote.
