Overwatch’s Pink Mercy skin raises over $12.7 million for breast cancer research

A staggering $12,723,828 USD has been raised for charity thanks to a special ‘Pink Mercy’ event in Blizzard’s Overwatch. Blizzard made the announcement earlier today, thanking the community for partaking and spending generously on the special skin, t-shirts, and donations.

“Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the Overwatch community during the Pink Mercy charity campaign, we’ve raised more than $12.7 million (USD) to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.”

The campaign started back in May of this year, allowing players to spend $15 USD for a special Pink Mercy skin, with t-shirts also available for purchase. A charity stream full of Overwatch stars helped generate more money for the worthy cause as well.

The money will be going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, a charity who  is “committed to achieving prevention and a cure for breast cancer. We provide critical funding for cancer research worldwide to fuel advances in tumor biology, genetics, prevention, treatment, metastasis and survivorship.”

The 12.7 million is an unbelievable achievement with the money going to an undeniably worthy charity. It’s an accomplishment not only for Blizzard but for the players who got involved. Various fan art and cosplays were made for the event, with Blizzard featuring some talented creations on their post.
