Nintendo had quite a few big announcements at their Nintendo Direct this morning, two of which concern our favourite anthropomorphic life simulation, Animal Crossing. First out of the gates was the reveal of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s newest fighter, Isabelle. Isabelle is the peppy mayoral assistant from 2013’s Animal Crossing: New Leaf. She is also the eighth brand new fighter into the Smash roster, previously only appearing as an assist trophy for the WiiU and 3DS game.
Isabelle is certainly a welcome addition to the already huge roster of characters. We had an opportunity to go hands on with the upcoming game at a special media event with Nintendo last month (August). The amount of characters, stages, items and more was already overwhelming and made for a crazy yet fun experience. Although no matter how many characters are included, people will always want more. I can see Isabelle and her bag of tricks fitting in quite nicely. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is set for a December 7th release date.
The bigger Animal Crossing news is that of a brand new game for Nintendo Switch arriving next year. Fans have been craving a new Animal Crossing experience and it looks like it is finally arriving. The announcement comes via a special video featuring the villainous Tom Nook.

The Animal Crossing series debuted in 2001 and introduced players to a calming and adorable world full of furry friends. The series fits into the life simulation genre and allows you to farm, fish, make friends with the townspeople and much more. It soon became a classic and a Nintendo staple with multiple iterations and spin-offs following down the line. The most recent was Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp for smartphones.
Unfortunately not a whole lot is known about Animal Crossing Switch other than a 2019 expected release. Stay tuned for further details.
