Insomniac Games are following up their first outing with the wall-crawler with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, set to release on the upcoming PS5 as a launch title. The sequel will follow the adventures of Peter Parker’s protege, Miles Morales, who had a supporting role in the original game.
In the teaser, we see Miles in his black-and-red Spider-Man costume swinging around New York City and taking out goons. As shown in the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse animated film, Miles also has the ability to shock enemies with electricity, which he will be using alongside the other standard Spider-Man powers. The neon-infused art direction also seems inspired by the film’s art style.
Considering Marvel’s Spider-Man is the fastest selling Sony exclusive ever, it is no surprise Sony would fast-track a sequel for the PS5. Furthermore, Miles Morales’ popularity with general audiences after his starring role in Into the Spider-Verse also makes his appearance as this game’s protagonist a given. The first Marvel’s Spider-Man game provided Miles’ origin story, and implied that he would go on further adventures. It remains to be seen which of the first games’ other unfinished plot threads will be followed up on.
Developer Insomniac Games was purchased by Sony last year. Sony seems keen on getting one of its newest internal studios to give its upcoming console a great launch line-up. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will release for the PlayStation 5 Holiday 2020, alongside the new console’s release.
