Good news Horizon Zero Dawn fans! The sequel to one of PlayStation’s most beloved titles is also coming to PS4! Horizon Forbidden West was announced back in June as a PS5 title but today has been confirmed to also be releasing on the PS4. PlayStation had this to say on their blog:
“we know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times, and we’re happy to announce PS4 versions of some of our exclusives… Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. While these… games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch.”
Sony also announced that the PS4 digital version of the launch game will include a free upgrade on both of the PS5 consoles. PS4 disc versions will include a free upgrade “on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive.”
Developers, Guerrilla Games, have said that “Forbidden West” refers to a “new frontier” that Aloy will be exploring. This world spans from Utah to the Pacific Ocean and will let players explore desserts, valleys and include deep sea exploration. Guerrilla has confirmed that the open world’s map will also be slightly bigger than the original. They have said that loading times on the PS5 will be a lot faster than on the PS4, saying that players will experience next to no loading times when fast traveling. Forbidden West will also see players come across new machines and new tribes. The latter will be either friendly or hostile, with one tribe having the knowledge of how to override machines to use them in combat.
Horizon Forbidden West will release sometime in 2021 and will be available exclusively on PS4 and PS5.
