The upcoming Oddworld: Soulstorm has at long last scored a concrete release date. After our last look at the game back in September, the action packed platformer has been confirmed for release in just a few short weeks, in early April. Better yet, the game will join the PS Plus free game line-up for that month, giving the chance for even more people to check out the title. This enticing news came out of the first PlayStation State of Play to debut in 2021.
Similar to the prior games in the franchise, Oddworld: Soulstorm is a 2.5D platformer that follows Abe, a member of the mutant alien hybrid race Mudokon. Your hero is situated in a factory of sorts, purposed with saving slaves of his fellow alien-kind. A new crafting system will allow Abe to create different weapons to use at their disposal to escape. It also uses crowd mechanics, controlling and guiding groups of allies, something that was prevalent in the earlier games. Interestingly, Soulstorm looks to be both a continuation of the last game, 2014’s Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty! and also a reimagining of 1998’s Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus.
Also available on PS Plus for PS5 owners, Soulstorm is the latest title to join the growing trend PlayStation has followed from Xbox in releasing games on their subscription service day and date. The most recent of this being Destruction AllStars. Hopefully, this allows for the game to achieve more success than it otherwise would.
Oddworld: Soulstorm isn’t far off release. The action adventure platformer releases on PS4, PS5 (also via PS Plus) and PC on April 6. Are you keen?
