After years of legal disputes and leaks, the legendary Nintendo 64 FPS Goldeneye 007 is coming to modern consoles via Xbox Game Pass and Nintendo Switch Online. This remaster will provide some minor visual and performance improvements, but is otherwise aiming to recapture the feel of the N64 original compared to its more advanced Wii remake.
Based on the 1995 Pierce Brosnan-led James Bond film, Goldeneye 007 has long been held up as a gold standard for licensed video game adaptations of movies and celebrated as a great FPS in its own right. Playing as Bond, the single player mode sees you play through many of the film’s iconic scenes. In addition, the game’s legendary four-player multiplayer will still be included on both Xbox and Nintendo Switch, with this version allowing you to play against your friends online. What’s more, if you own the wireless Nintendo 64 Switch controller, you can play Goldeneye with the same controls as the game’s original release.
Curiously, Goldeneye 007 will be exclusive to Xbox Game Pass and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion subscribers. There is currently no news of a PlayStation or PC port, or the option to buy it individually outside of a subscription. Hopefully for players on those platforms, there is a wider release on the horizon. Goldeneye 007 will be available for download for Xbox Game Pass and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion subscribers from January 27th 2023.
