PlayStation 5 consoles get a supply boost at the start of the year

Posted on February 1, 2023

After supply chain issues made it difficult for players to obtain a PlayStation 5 since it launched back at the end of 2020, supplies have risen and you are now more likely to get one.

A message from Isabelle Tomatis, the Vice President of Brand, Hardware and Peripherals, SIE, reassured players that it would be easier to procure a PS5 now:

“To all our fans: thank you for your patience as we navigated unprecedented demand for the PS5 console amid global challenges. If you’re looking to purchase a PS5 console, you should now have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally.”

This news coincided with the reveal of the “Live from PS5” video, where players can see some of the best of the PS5 games delivered in a live new channel format.

While addressing some games that had already been released this month, such as Forspoken, more games were shown off for the months to follow. Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, Final Fantasy XVI, Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Street Fighter 6 were listed as some of the highly anticipated games, with expansions such as Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores and Destiny 2: Lightfall also highlighted.

Supply issues have plagued the console, along with its Xbox Series X rival, since they both launched in November 2020, with it being almost impossible to find one without waiting a long time for a pre-order, right up until the back half of 2022. Considering a price increase came into effect last year as well (something almost unheard of two years after a console has launched), it’s great to see that supply is now finally able to meet the demand, allowing everybody the opportunity to jump into the current generation.

With another big year ahead for the PlayStation 5, it will finally be easy for you to jump in when the additional PS5 supplies hit the shelves.
