DONTNOD and Focus Entertainment have revealed more gameplay details about their new upcoming action game, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. Playing as an exorcist who protects the living from the dead, you team up with your recently-deceased partner liberate her from her new condition while defeating and banishing rogue souls.
In Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, you play as Red, a “Banisher” who ends the suffering of lingering souls and prevents them from harming the living. After Red’s partner, Antea, is mortally wounded, the duo travels to the town of New Eden. There, they banish ghosts, make some tough choices and work to potentially bring her back to life. The game was originally first announced last year during The Game Awards, however this is the first major gameplay footage we have seen.
Banishers features Red and Antea fighting undead foes in action gameplay, mixing up Red’s weaponry and Antea’s ghost powers in a Soulstice-esque fashion. Fittingly for a game by the developers of Life is Strange, you will also need to make a lot of life-or-death decisions to determine the fates of New Eden’s inhabitants. You are able to spare or sacrifice certain souls; it will remain to be seen what kind of impact these in-game decisions will have on how the story develops.
We don’t have a firm release date for Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden yet, but we at least have an idea of when to expect it. The game is set to come out on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5 before the end of 2023.
