Sea of Thieves sets sail with The Legend of Monkey Island crossover

Sea of Thieves fans, get ready to set sail on a legendary adventure as the world of Monkey Island joins forces with the popular pirate game. The newest Sea of Thieves DLC, The Legend of Monkey Island, is set to launch on 20 July 2023, announced during the Xbox Showcase at Summer Games Fest 2023.

In this exciting collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, Sea of Thieves will introduce a three-part Tall Tale expansion that immerses players in a brand-new story featuring beloved characters from the Monkey Island series. Prepare to encounter the fearless Guybrush Threepwood, his beloved Elaine, the infamous ghost captain LeChuck, Murray the Demonic Talking Skull, and many more iconic characters.

The DLC will take you to Mêlée Island and Monkey Island, where you’ll solve puzzles in a point-and-click style adapted for Sea of Thieves’ first-person view. You’ll embark on this adventure in the Sea of the Damned, free from interruptions by other players, so you can fully relive the magic of the Monkey Island series.

Sea of Thieves’ Creative Director, Mike Chapman, shared some insights about the collaboration and what players can expect. The team had been inspired by the Monkey Island humour, tone, and sense of whimsy throughout the development of Sea of Thieves and wanted to create an immersive experience that captures the essence of both franchises. The Legend of Monkey Island offers in-depth dialogue, iconic puzzle gameplay, and the opportunity to relive Monkey Island classic locations.

This crossover is exciting for existing fans and provides a gateway for new players to discover the Monkey Island world. The Sea of Thieves team is dedicated to creating an authentic experience that aligns with the original Monkey Island games’ tone, characters, and gameplay.
