As part of Summer Game Fest, NCSoft and Amazon Games have announced an upcoming free-to-play MMORPG in Throne and Liberty, a fantasy combat adventure that allows players to transform into creatures such as wolves and birds to do battle or traverse the world.
Promising battlefields that evolve based on weather and time of day, this title is releasing for PC as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at some point. A technical test is available for sign-up now at the game’s website, allowing players a first look at how this new MMO plays. Check out the trailer below.
This is not the first MMO released in partnership with Amazon Games, with 2021’s New World achieving mostly positive critical reception and continuing to garner decent player counts from its dedicated fanbase. It’s also not the the first rodeo for NCSoft, as the developers of the Guild Wars series. Throne and Liberty looks like it will have similar visual spectacle to previous titles from this pair of development studios. In a blog post from NCSoft Senior Vice President of Product Development Moonyoung Choi, they express excitement at the project’s announcement and particularly highlight the title’s multiplayer elements and capacity for cross-play.
