SEGA has partnered with the southern hemisphere’s only LEGO Certified Professional (LCP), Ryan “Brickman” McNaught, to create a life-size Sonic the Hedgehog LEGO figure at PAX Aus to commemorate the upcoming Sonic Superstars.
The life-sized LEGO Sonic is quite the impressive undertaking, having taken 103 hours to construct with 25,807 LEGO bricks used in its creation. The LEGO Sonic will be available for viewing at PAX Aus at the Melbourne Convention Centre from the 6th of October 2023.
“As an old school gamer, I remember playing the original sonic back in the 90s until our hands hurt from playing too much! So having the opportunity to bring one of our favourite video game characters to life with LEGO bricks is awesome and we can’t wait to share it with everyone,” said Ryan ‘Brickman’ McNaught. “We’re all big gamers here at The Brickman, there was no way we would pass up an opportunity to build the iconic Sonic the Hedgehog!”
“Bringing two iconic brands together to create such an eye-catching statue is a fantastic way to celebrate Sonic’s enduring appeal across more than just video games,” said Darren Macbeth, Managing Director at Five Star Games. “Brickman has done a fantastic job in bringing Sonic to life in LEGO brick form and we can’t wait for gamers to see it for themselves when they join us at PAX AUS to play Sonic Superstars.”
Sonic Superstars is SEGA’s upcoming retro-themed Sonic platformer, going back to the Blue Blur’s roots with a colourful 2D platformer after the bombastic and experimental open world outing of Sonic Frontiers last year. Players can play solo, or with up to 3 others playing as Sonic’s friends. Those who preorder the game will obtain an exclusive in-game LEGO Eggman character skin. Sonic fans will be able to check out the giant LEGO Sonic built by Brickman at PAX Aus (and say hi to us at the Checkpoint Gaming booth while you’re there, why not?) and play some of Sonic Superstars ahead of its full release on October 17th 2023.
