Bithell Games, the British developer behind Thomas Was Alone, John Wick Hex and the recently released TRON: Catalyst, is laying off 11 employees – the majority of their full-time staff – after failing to secure their next project.

Founder Mike Bithell released a statement on Bluesky, saying, “it became clear leading up to the release of our most recent game that we were not immune to the challenges faced by many game development teams seeking funding partners in 2024 and 2025”. Their previous game, TRON: Catalyst, was released two months ago.
These layoffs are the latest in a long line, following massive upheaval in the industry and redundancies occurring at Supermassive Games, Xbox and Bioware.
Mike Bithell reports that these layoffs will not impact the availability of the studio’s existing self-published games, potentially in response to John Wick Hex being delisted last month.
Bithell Games was originally founded after the success of the platformer Thomas Was Alone in 2012 and has published eight games, ranging from licensed titles like John Wick and TRON to games like The Solitaire Conspiracy.
