Well here is a fun one for the rumour mill. FromSoftware, the development team behind hard-as-nails action RPGs such as Dark Souls and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, are reportedly working on a video game in collaboration with Game of Thrones author, George R.R. Martin.
The rumours all begun when the prolific author took to his personal blog to make a statement regarding the closure of the Game of Thrones HBO series. Within his blog post, Martin lists a string of his current and upcoming collaboration projects including the fact that he has “consulted on a video game out of Japan.” Whilst that statement alone isn’t overly exciting, it’s all of the leaks and sources that have followed that give the really juicy details.
Back in March a YouTube channel by the name of Spawn Wave revealed information about a From Software and George R.R. Martin collaboration in this video. Whilst the claims were unsubstantiated back then, now more and more sources appear to help confirm them. Within the video it is said that the game will be an open-world title featuring various kingdoms with Martin playing the role of one of the game’s lead writers.
A recent article by Gematsu suggests that their sources have also confirmed this collaboration. They also suggest that the game’s title has the acronym ‘GR’ and has been in development for the past three years. GR will be published by Bandai Namco and will be officially revealed at Microsoft’s E3 2019 press conference. More details continue to emerge with GamesRadar reporting that the game will be titled ‘Great Rune’ and will explore Norse Mythology and settings.
Whilst nothing has been officially confirmed yet, it certainly seems like there is something in the works here. If only we could trust George R.R. Martin to actually finish his writing projects…
