Nintendo have announced the return of their classic Nintendo Direct showcases with a 50-minute show scheduled to go ahead tomorrow (Thursday). The Direct is said to focus on both currently available games “like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” as well as Switch releases arriving in the first half of 2021.
This Nintendo Direct is certainly longer than a typical Nintendo showcase. It’s also the first “real” Nintendo Direct since September 2019 with many of Nintendo’s more recent Direct’s being listed as “Direct Minis” or focussing on specific games only. Does this mean we’ll get some bigger than usual reveals? I certainly hope so, but I’m not going to count my chickens just yet.

We don’t know too much about Nintendo’s year ahead so it’s hard to make predictions as to what we may see. It’s likely we’ll get more details on New Pokémon Snap that launches late April, but one game does not an entire Direct make. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has already been name-dropped as an inclusion. However we know fans would go crazy if new details were announced about Breath of the Wild 2, Bayonetta 3 or Metroid Prime 4. I’m not going to get my hopes up, but that would be pretty exciting.
The Nintendo Direct is taking place 9am Thursday, Febraury 18 AEDT. What do you hope will be shown?
