Ubisoft has casually announced that Tom Clancy’s The Division 3, a third mainline instalment in its long-running military looter-shooter The Division series, is in the works at Massive Entertainment. In addition, Julian Gerighty has been named Executive Producer for the Tom Clancy’s The Division brand.

As per its announcement, Ubisoft has confirmed that Julian Gerighty, who is also the Creative Director on The Division 2 and Ubisoft’s upcoming Star Wars: Outlaws, will be acting as Executive Producer for all of Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy’s The Division games. In addition to producing and overseeing the mainline console entries, Gerighty will also be responsible for the franchise’s spin-offs, such as The Division Resurgence on mobile devices and the upcoming free-to-play The Division Heartland. As part of his new role, he will be “building a team” for The Division 3 at Swedish development studio Massive Entertainment, while ensuring that The Division 2 is still supported.
According to Gerighty, every single expression of The Division needs to be of the highest quality. “I think that we delivered that with Tom Clancy’s The Division’s cutting-edge visuals, incredible gameplay, and promise to the player that they can’t get this experience anywhere else, and then again with Tom Clancy’s The Division 2,” he stated. “It’s about refinement, it’s about pushing the quality bar consistently forward.”
Of course, the game’s Executive Producer is only at the stage of assembling the development team. It can thus be assumed that work on The Division 3 is in very early days right now. As such, we can likely expect quite a while before any footage or substantial details of its premise or plot are revealed.
The Division 2 has been chugging along as a fairly successful live service shooter for Ubisoft, with a decent amount of DLC released over the past four years. A movie adaptation starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain is also in the works, however as of December of last year, the project is seemingly in limbo. Fans of Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy’s The Division series will have a lot to look forward to with the franchise’s upcoming sequels and spin-offs, however they may need to wait quite a while before more info regarding The Division 3 is unveiled.
