A preview for The Last of Us Season 2 was released and it’s more tense and emotional than ever. The preview showcases the return of Joel and Ellie (played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey), as well as new characters that will be introduced. Season 2 will be based on the PlayStation game, The Last of Us: Part II, and will introduce a new main lead who’s out for vengeance.
The latest preview was part of Max’s latest “Coming Soon” promo, where it shows an emotional Joel addressing his actions from season 1, claiming that he did it to save Ellie from the Fireflies. It also showcases a raid towards the community settlement in Jackson, Wyoming, and glimpses towards new characters, like Dina (Isabela Merced) and Abby (Kaitlyn Dever). It seems season 2 is set to be more action-packed, as well as to have some emotional moments.
Just like Season 1, The Last of Us: Season 2 will be based on the games, more specifically, The Last of Us: Part II. Showrunners, Craig Mazin and Niel Druckmann will be returning for the show’s next instalment, as well as returning cast members, Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria. Joining the show includes Merced as Dina, who’s described as Ellie’s romantic interest, Dever as Abby, a solider seeking vengeance, and Spencer Lord, Tati Gabrielle, and Danny Ramirez playing the rest of Abby’s crew, as Owen, Nora, and Manny.

Season 1 of The Last of Us received multiple accolades since its release. It received 5 nominations for the Primetime Emmy Awards and 3 nominations for the Golden Globes. According to Gizmodo, auditions faced some issues due to the 2023 Hollywood Strikes. HBO considered using scripts from the game because the ones for the show were not ready, but fortunately, the idea was scrapped.
The Last of Us: Part II was released on PlayStation 4 back on June 19, 2020, and on PlayStation 5 in 2024. The game takes place 4 years later since the events of the first game, and Joel and Ellie’s relationship faces its challenges. The game received a 93/100 Metacritic score, and during the 2020 Game Awards, it won Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, and Best Performance, just to name a few.
The Last of Us Season 2 is scheduled to come out in 2025. You can watch the rest of season 1 on Binge. Meanwhile, the two games are available to play on PlayStation.
