2020 has been the year of the release date delay. With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to grip the globe, early 2021 seems to be no different. The planned January 2021 release date for Ubisoft’s long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been delayed by two months due to the difficulties of working remotely.

“We are excited to put this game in your hands, as we retell the story of the Prince and Farah in a reimagined 11th century Persia”, the dev team has announced in a statement posted on Twitter. “However, 2020 has been a year like no other. Today we wanted to let you know that we are taking additional time to work on the game. With that, the release date for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been moved to March 18, 2021. We believe this is the right call to ensure we will deliver a game you will enjoy.”
A two month delay is not the longest example we have seen recently, and at least there is a new concrete release date in its place. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is a remake of the beloved 2003 platformer. Its success spawned two sequels, Warrior Within and The Two Thrones. The Prince has not had a full console game adventure since 2010’s Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.
It is never fun seeing a highly anticipated game be delayed. However, ensuring that the game is being developed safely is more important. Hopefully, this delay by two months ensures that the game can release in a polished state. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will release on March 18, 2021 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
